Easy Apple Cinnamon Pie

How to Make Easy Apple Pie. Try this super delicious easy recipe, using shop bought pastry or you can make your own if you wish! I’ve added cinnamon and lemon to enhance the flavours of these wonderfully tart apples.



Tips for making apple pie :


1. Choose the right apples - for tart apple pies use cortland, empire, or granny smith apples. For sweet/tart pies use braeburn, honeycrip, or pink lady apples. For sweet apple pies use crispin, fuji, or golden delicious.


2. To make the pastry, mix together flour, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in enough water to make a soft dough. Roll out dough on a floured surface and use to line a 9 inch pie dish. Trim.


3.Place baking tray under apple pie in case of any spillages.


Best toppings for an apple pie :


1. A classic streusel topping made with flour, sugar, butter, and cinnamon.


2. A crumb topping made with oats, brown sugar, flour, and butter.


3. A lattice top made with strips of pie dough arranged in a criss-cross pattern.


Tip: place the pastry or pie back into the fridge if it becomes too soft to work with






Ingredients:


3 tbsp packed brown sugar


2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1/2 lemon, juice only


1 teaspoon ground cinnamon


6 to 7 cups sliced peeled tart apples (about 7 medium)


Shortcrust pastry (shop bought or made)




Directions:


1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Line pie dish with one half of the pastry.

3. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, apples and cinnamon; set aside.

4. Arrange macerated apples in the pastry-lined pie dish evenly.

5. Roll remaining pastry to a 1/4-in.-thick (0.6 cm) circle. Place over filling.

6. Trim, seal and flute edge. Cut slits in top. Arrange foil over the fluted edges to prevent burning.

7. Bake for 25 minutes.

8. Take out and remove foil. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F (180°C) and bake for an additional 30 minutes.

9. Cool on a wire rack for an hour before serving with warm custard of ice cream.
